African cichlid ph way to low?

My uncle just ped away and I agreed to take his cichlids as I'm the only person with experience with these fish. My uncle never was able to keep them well, however the three i recieved (2.5-3 in in size) have lived for upwards six months tho. Idk how tho after I just did the ph test! The reading is 6.0 or less, thats the lowest it reads though! He has rocks in the which I thought buffered the water, but he also has driftwood so yea. I will eventually move them into my ma. tank was I properly id them to make sure they are compatible, but how do I gradually increase the pH without killing the fish?! My kit came with this pH up solution but I know a rapid sudden change will ultimately lead to death so I dont want to risk their lives. Should I add a few drops every few hours or so or should I do it every few days? Plz help. Ten points for the first answer that answers my question and does not lecture me! I have experience Im just in a bad situation with fish Im trying to help.
