What to get for a first-time dog? (Read description)?

A lot of people suggest something like a Lab as a first time dog, which I'm not against. Another I would suggest is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I really have never owned a purebred before but I've heard Cavalier's make good dogs for a first time dog owner. Good luck!
